How to be an Involved Parent at School

Gone are the days when parents were only seen at school during PTMs or Annual Functions. New age parents want to be more involved with the school their child goes to. Research has also shown parental involvement in schools has "positive effect on child's success." Department of Education says "parental involvement in the classroom is a key factor in improving students' academic performance. Returning to the classroom and showing up to school translates into your child's overall success."

Why did I choose a Montessori School for Zoe

Written for MyCity4Kids

Zoe (2.5) has just started going to school and from the time I started my research on various methods adopted by different schools, the Montessori way of education attracted me the most. Why did I pick a school which doesn't believe in teaching my daughter alphabets but phonics... which does not believe in having tables and chairs but has floor mats.... where my child will do many things that a regular school wouldn't allow kids to do.

I visited my daughter's school couple of times before her admission, but I went as an observer once and that's the time when I was sure this is what I wanted for Zoe. Couple of things which I loved about the setup:

Printable - Free Book Label (3 Different Themes)

School has started and a new session means new books/notebooks, new books mean covering them with brown paper and colorful labels... As a kid we always got excited about new books and new name labels. I remember, buying books and covering them was one of the best part of my schooling years.

How to Beat Lunch Box Blues?

As a mother to a 4 year old, I experience “LUNCH BOX BLUES” on a regular basis. According to a recent study conducted by Coupons.com, shopping and preparing for school lunches stresses out over 50% of moms! So thankfully you & I aren’t the only ones with fussy eaters.

As a mother, I constantly try to come up with healthy options for his lunch box & as a true-blue preschooler Zefan dismisses all my efforts in a jiffy. The little man’s behavior forced me to research & experiment with exciting, healthy & new food options. I explored different ways in which I could encourage him to eat healthy foods.

How to Choose the Best Preschool for your kid

When we were looking for a preschool for The Toddler, we were sure we would be going for a Montessori setup as per me the foundation a Montessori school provides is fab. I know I would have to work extra hard for admitting her in Standard 1, but I prepared myself for it.

When we started school in the 80's, preschool wasn't a big deal. They were nice friendly neighborhood schools. Now-a-days things are different, especially when we have a lot of research showing positive impact of early education on a child's social and academic life. I guess choosing the right playschool has become as life-altering as selecting a business school.
