Eric Carle Spins Magic

We are a family of readers, as our guest blogger puts in the post here... Even I do not know how a child gets interested in reading/listening to stories/browsing through books. I do my bit when it comes to the toddler. I make sure she has lots & lots of books, doesn't see more than 2-3 hours TV (YouTube) a day and doesn't get more than 30 minutes on tab. The toddler started by browsing through and chewing books, moved on to just browsing, then to picking the book up and giving it to Mommie, from there to picking up the book Mom asks her for, and now she even says a couple of words/phrases of her all time favorite books (Pheeeew! we have come a long long way).
Her favorite author (yes! At 2 she has a favorite author) is Eric Carle, if you've been a reader of Being Zoe's Mum you'd see most books I've reviewed belong to Carle. Take a bow Mr. Carle wherever you are! It all started with The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and her obsession grows day by day. She just doesn't take this kind of liking for any other author or book (except Goodnight Moon & Mr Brown can Moo can you?).

Why do Carle's books work with Kids?

Carle has a very different style, which is easily recognizable.  I guess the first big attractions are the pictures and illustrations mostly hand painted, may be that is why he is referred to as 'The Picture Writer'. Most of his books have the distinct Carle Touch, it may be the folded pages, cut outs, twinkle of the lights... The themes are based on nature (specially animals) which young kids love. The books are not only lovely to look at, but tell you something very interesting as well. Carle's books have the same freshness, creativity and inquisitiveness than children are born with.

Most books are 'sing-song' books and their videos are available on YouTube.

Trivia: His first book was ' Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?' and the very famous ' The Very Hungry Caterpillar' is his 3rd book.
