Like
new mommies or mommies-to-be didn’t have enough on their minds, that the
exercise of finding the right paediatrician for their precious little ones
comes daunting in their faces.
Looking
for a doctor for your baby can be an anxiety inducing job. Momsters understands
how difficult it is & therefore we have put together a few pointers that
will make your HUNT a little easy. These tips come from our own personal
experiences, tips from old-timers & some research. Here goes:
- Credentials: You are going to trust your paediatrician with your most precious little being, so you got to be doubly sure of their degrees, specializations & experience. It is best to choose someone who has various pediatric specializations & has good experience.
- References: Talk to your friends, family, neighbours and most importantly your gynecologist & ask for references. The best discoveries in such case come from word of mouth.
- Approachability: Your paediatrician has to be someone who can be reached at odd hours, if the need arises. You don’t want to be looking for an alternate doctor in the middle of the night, should your child need medical assistance.
- Likeability: Since you & your baby will be spending a long period of time (from birth to adolescence) with your paediatrician, it is advisable to choose someone who has a pleasant personality & who makes you & your baby comfortable. And who you are comfortable with
- Location: Look for a paediatrician preferably in your vicinity
- Availability: Some extremely “famous” doctors are so busy all day that getting an appointment with them becomes a harrowing experience. We prefer going to a “not-so-famous” doctor who has time to see your child & time to hear you out. A doctor appointment that constantly keeps reminding you of the minutes ticking by, isn’t what we want
Avoid
going “paediatrician hunting” with yellow pages in hand. Advertisements are for
selling products not doctors. Steer clear of doctors who have converted their
profession into a business.
HAPPY
PAEDIATRICIAN HUNTING!!!
